We are located in Chicago, IL. Please only apply if you are a resident of the Chicagoland-area, or are planning on moving to the area in the near future. We do all work for limebarb.com in our studio, and do not outsource to other locations.

Applicants need only apply if they have accomplished one of the following:

  • Interns must have at least one year school experience in relevant field
  • Seamster/Seamstress with occupational experience
  • Seamster/Seamstress/Prop Smith with theater experience
  • Anyone applying must be able to provide a resume and samples of previous works for us to review in person.
INTERNS
SEAMSTRESS
We are currently looking for 1 to 3 interns for the fall semester. We are seeking interns who would like to gain experience in prop making, sewing and crafting garments as well as someone who is seeking office and management experience in a small business. This is an unpaid intern position for school credit in your major. Intern applicants not in school looking for experience may still apply.

Interns will gain a wide range of knowledge of various construction techniques because of all the different projects limebarb.com creates. Interns will get lots of hands-on work experience and learn how to function in a fast-paced workplace. Most of limebarb.com’s work is done with individual clients, with individual needs so the staff of limebarb.com needs to be diverse to accomplish the multitude of needed skills to complete each project in a timely manner. Interns will gain some of this diversity to take home for their very own!

We are currently looking for 1 seamstress/seamster to be a part of our staff for winter 2009 onwards. Seamstress must have occupational experience in crafting garments, or must have a strong portfolio and be in their junior or senior year of a relative college major. Base pay is $8 to $14 an hour and is negotiable based on experience and skills. Seamstresses should be available to work 2 to 5 days a week. Seamstresses are expected to do a two week (4 to 8 days) unpaid training course with us before being fully hired. Limebarb.com considers hires based on skills, competence, work responsibility, and ability to function within our tight-knit group.
Interns can expect to do many of the following:

  • hand sewing
  • finishings on garments
  • basic sewing to moderate sewing on industrial machines
  • fabric and prop painting
  • fabric and prop pattern cutting
  • basic to moderate prop building (swords, costume jewelry, armor pieces)
  • experience sewing corsets, period garments, bodysuits, gowns, etc.
  • experience with various ‘tricky’ fabric types: satins, spandex, vinyl, leather
  • wig styling, and wefting
  • in-house product photography
  • styling for in-house photography projects
  • office organization and website editing
Seamstress/Seamster should be able to do the following:

  • hand sewing
  • finishing of garments
  • basic garment construction with minimal direction
  • moderate to complicated construction with written direction
  • have a basic knowledge of pattern drafting
  • check garment fits, and make needed adjustments on dressforms, or clients as needed
  • be able to multitask
  • be adaptable to the variety of tasks that must be performed that may include tasks aside from sewing (such as assisting with a photoshoot)
  • be able to follow directions, and always ask questions as needed!
